Expert Parging Contractor
For the past decade, we have been assisting homeowners, builders, project managers, and various contractors with a wide range of parging and related small construction tasks. Parging serves as a protective coating system that shields foundation walls from elements such as ice, water, dirt, and sunlight, while also guarding against hazards like mold and rust. Beyond its protective qualities, it enhances the aesthetic appeal of walls through various textures and color choices.
Solida Parging has been operational for the last six years, helping individuals and businesses with diverse parging and related projects on a small to medium scale. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, we provide complimentary estimates within the city limits and surrounding areas.
Our service offerings include:
- Traditional textured
- Smooth textured
- Acrylic
- ICF based
- Pressure treated plywood based
We handle a variety of projects to meet different needs, including repairs and patching of foundation, retaining, and basement walls. With a keen focus on detail, we manage nearly every aspect of the project from initial preparation to final cleanup. Upon completion, we conduct a final walkthrough with the client to ensure complete satisfaction; if clients are unavailable, we provide visual documentation such as pictures and videos.
Parging Installation Process
Parging is a thin layer of material that is especially beneficial for foundation and basement walls. It effectively covers and reinforces the foundation with a protective coating against various risks and external influences. Contrary to popular belief, concrete walls can deteriorate and weaken over time, necessitating the right parge coating for protection. The same applies to ICF foundations, which are covered with Styrofoam that can degrade and discolor from UV rays, as well as pressure treated plywood that may swell and warp due to prolonged exposure to moisture.
For a standard poured concrete foundation, we begin by clearing away pebbles, rocks, and dirt from the walls. Any protruding metal pieces are cut off, and the walls are thoroughly washed to eliminate dirt. We then apply a vapor barrier membrane over the exposed wood plates and rim joists, reinforced with an A-mesh. If needed or requested, we install flashings, typically above basement windows and ventilation covers. Next, we apply a concrete bonding adhesive before laying on a thick parge coat. For ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) foundations, we rasp the walls and, if necessary, install EIFS trims. In projects involving ICF and acrylic parging, we embed the parge coat in fiberglass mesh before applying the desired texture and color. The premises are cleaned, and we handle any final touch-ups.
Parging Repair
If sections of the parging are deteriorating and crumbling, it may be time to consider a parging repair service to rejuvenate the appearance of your foundation. Small cracks are typically harmless and considered normal; however, larger cracks can trap dirt and water, leading to sections of the parging falling off over time. Water entering these cracks can freeze in winter, expanding and causing the parge coating to detach when thawing occurs in summer. Foundation shifts are also a significant cause of parging cracks, particularly where the garage connects with the main building, leading to sections of parging breaking away.
Color alterations in the parging can occur due to prolonged exposure to moisture. Parging absorbs moisture, and when temperatures rise, it can leave stains that alter the color of the parging, resulting in some areas appearing darker and more matte. We offer parging repairs of all types within the greater Edmonton area; however, for minor repairs such as cracks and patches, we prefer to request visuals like pictures instead of conducting an on-site estimate.
Parging installations and repairs not only enhance the visual appeal of foundation walls but also provide an additional layer of protection against various hazards. It is wise to ensure that your foundation walls are both attractive and well-protected. Reach out to us via phone or email, and we will respond promptly.
